Don't Fall For These Tallow Balm Gimmicks!
With copycats of our original Tallow Balm comes a lot of tallow balm trickery! Here are the top 4 examples:
Whipped Balm
A whipped tallow balm may be easier to remove from the jar, but it isn't more easily absorbed. If it spreads more easily, it is because it doesn't have the high-quality, highly saturated tallow that we use and/or too much non-tallow oil has been added, both of which makes it less therapeutic. Whipping air into the product also promotes rancidity and means you're being charged for air.
Honey Balm
The claim of a tallow balm with honey in it is just a gimmick because any therapeutic amount of honey would make the product a sticky mess that wouldn't absorb into your skin. Honey can indeed be therapeutic to the skin as a face mask which is left on for 15 - 20 minutes and then rinsed off, but not as a tiny amount in a balm. Also, tests have shown that most "honey" isn't 100% honey, or honey at all, and even real honey is often contaminated with antibiotics, pesticides, and other chemicals. Almost all of the honey found in the store is contaminated with antibiotics because most large beekeepers use antibiotics in their hives. In addition, the honey tallow balms that we have seen are actually from China. Finally, adding honey introduces water and sugar into the tallow, both of which promote spoilage.
Magnesium Balm
It's impossible to get much magnesium into tallow balm. Magnesium does not dissolve in oil but only in water, and our Tallow Balm has no water in it. Therefore, calling an oil-based balm a magnesium tallow balm is just a gimmick. A water-based lotion could contain some magnesium, but then it would also contain problematic ingredients. We would recommend simply using a magnesium oil spray to provide a meaningful amount of magnesium to the body. It's called "oil" because it feels slick, but there is no oil in it. It is simply magnesium chloride and water, and it should contain no other ingredients.
Sunscreen Balm
Creating a sunscreen tallow balm is worse than a gimmick because it is harmful to skin health and overall health. You can read about this topic in our newsletter, Why You Shouldn't Use Any Sunscreens (which also describes what you can do instead). "Natural" sunscreens with "non-nano" zinc oxide and titanium dioxide are extremely damaging to health. Zinc oxide and titanium dioxide are toxic to the body, and the "non-nano" versions do contain nanosize particles plus micronized particles, which are so small that they are just as dangerous! If the balm doesn't make your skin white like zinc oxide paste, the particles are too small. Furthermore, selective blocking of particular wavelengths of excessive sunlight to avoid the redness and pain does not prevent skin damage. Research and statistics indicate that sunscreen use actually promotes skin cancer.
